Nostalgic 80s n early 90s DD days

Say Hellooo! to your school years and your Childhood days :)

National programme was introduced in 1982. In the same year, colour TV was introduced in the Indian market with the live telecast of the Independence Day speech by then prime minister Indira Gandhi on 15 August 1982, followed by the 1982 Asian Games being held in Delhi. The 80s was the era of Doordarshan with soaps like Hum Log (1984), Buniyaad (1986-87), comedy shows like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984) and mythological dramas like Ramayan (1987-88) and Mahabharat (1988-89) glued millions to Doordarshan. Other popular programs included Hindi film songs based programs like Chitrahaar and Rangoli and crime thrillers like Karamchand (starring Pankaj Kapoor), Byomkesh Bakshi (starring Rajit kapur) and Janki Jasoos. Doordarshan Celebrates its 50th Anniversary!

Great memories you'll find in this video and I am happy to share a part of it with you all. Interested Viewers can follow the link within the video to watch all the parts.

So here we are talking about the Retro programs on DD and their awesome journey :) it all started when Doordarshan was introduced all over India after Television services were separated from A.I.R(All India Radio) on April 1, 1976 with the live telecast of the Independence Day speech by then prime minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi on 15 August 1982. These were the times when Indian Television evolution was just beginning like News Coverage's around the world and as we see in this video they talk about how they broke more barriers in developing the Network.

Memories refreshed about Entertainment Programs that started becoming more and more popular like Feature Films, Chitrahaar, Sitcoms like Hum-log earning them good TRP and there was this one particular program which is considered to have broken lot of records and ratings, it was the greatest hits of that time "Phool kile hain gulshan gulshan" for which the host Ms Tabassum, expresses her experiences doing the show which are sweet as herself. Many such faces, shows and programs make you feel nostalgic when you watch it after all these years. Doordarshan here also recalls about the experiences of the early Reporters and New readers national and International like Ms Salma if you remember, the beautiful News reader from the 80s who shared her First day experience of News reading in the Studio which was a bittersweet experience as this network was just in a initial stage.

There came many events as the Evolution of Indian Television was just beginning like there was telecast of Asian Games, National programs and that when color was introduced on the Independence day of 1982. I assume the Biggest and greatest unforgettable event was the Victory of ICC World cup Championship 1984, in the same year the Indian viewers enjoyed and were so proud to watch the telecast of the First Indian cosmonaut "Rakesh Sharma" with team who spent eight days journeying around the Earth's orbit in a space station called Salyut 7.

It might have been great experience for Doordarshan to have reached these many years with Telecast of Good shows and educate us with informative films, Documentaries, Movies, sitcom/TV series, Events and various programs National and International and its still goin' on Good.

Congratulations on 50! We wish you all the luck for years to come.

Here's a Video of some Sweet memories of Retro DD.

"Har pal jeevan ka aaa, ek chunauti hai".

Don't you just love that song, I really got so nostalgic when i heard it here. Why aren't we able to listen to such good shows anymore on DD? they were really some good programs made in the 80s and 90s right. Today there's no catch or moral left. What do you get to see in TV show TODAY? all big business family crap. No middle class show like wagle ki duniya or chunauti or malgudi days. In the early years of TV world in India we benefited watching true emotions good entertainment really great movies made back then. yeh how about them. Artists like kishore kumar or Mohd.Rafi sahab where do we find such gems in today's era, Well really hard to find, i am not complaining here ofcourse this totally a different era but we lack in originality and variety compared to past years of small screen and sliver screen entertainment dont you think the same? I wish someone plays these kinda shows again so that at least we get something different to enjoy for a while.

  6. yes stock market I agree to you..
saas bahu serial are so much away from reality.. initially for a while they were ok but the only way to watch them out is to consider them as comedy serials

  7. oh.... for few moments u took me back to my childhood.i feel soooooooo nostalgic.just going thru the list made me realize what we are missing now.i feel so soory for my son who will not get to see these wonderful, realistic serials.it is a belief that with the passage o time things becoe better but i am so sorry we cannot say the same about our television.

  8. I think i read a comment for old sitcom videos on youtube or orkut somebody gave the right message, i.e., people who used to make shows like DARPAN, CHUNAUTI OR MALGUDI DAYS have vanished. They understood life and characters of life so well they were able to touch our lives thru their stories. But the era has gone, this is the DIGITAL era. If you can yapp around good, wear great clothes and have less moral then you are a tough guy or HOT. That is a precise defination of teenagers taste today.

  31. Hello Everyone,
I am looking for an English movie that was aired on Doordarshan or DD Metro years back, but I do not remember the title of the movie. I just remember a few things about this movie. It was a horror movie and probably associated with a snake-like vampire. In one of the scenes from the movie, a "snakes and ladders" board is also seen. The most important part of the movie I remember is that the vampire spits on a mural of Jesus. The concluding part of the movie includes a person travelling in a jeep with a police officer heading towards a mansion that's allegedly haunted. Later, the lady discovers that the police officer who accompanied her is a vampire himself. I know it is almost impossible to guess the name of a movie with so less information on hand, but if anyone is aware as to what am I looking for, kindly reply, would wholeheartedly appreciate it.

    Hello Everyone,

I am looking for a movie (non English, I hope so) that was aired on Doordarshan or DD Metro years back, but I do not remember the title of the movie. I just remember a few things about this movie. A small boy will be travelling in search of his mother. He used to take with him a swan like creature. I know it is almost impossible to guess the name of a movie with so less information on hand, but if anyone is aware as to what am I looking for, kindly reply, would wholeheartedly appreciate it.

  49. Well its a great period of our time from 80's 90's. Only those people who are born it that period or watched those love serials can understand the pleasure of watching those serials. Even to watch new songs we used to sit for that Half an Hour program. Golden Days. I guess every one will agree. But dear friends where do we find those Serials to DOWNLOAD at least some one take the initiative of getting them and available to our generation people. If any one can do that favor i will be more than thankful to all of them. Here is my Email ID vjaykumar17@gmail.com

  56. Wow, truly a commanding job, compiling all the shows. Really miss those ood old days. Life used to be so much simpler back then. Does anyone remember the foreign language movies that used to be aired back then. I cant remember the names of the movies, probably because I was too small to remember them anyway, but i can still recall some scenes from those movies. One movie in particular, it was about a group of friends going on a trek, in the hills. Does anyone remember the name? Will be greatly appreciated!

  68. Hi, wonderful details here. I am looking for name of a series of teleplays. I faintly recall one story which had only female characters. An old woman livig with her aged unmarried daughters. There was no male character in this story. In other one, a powerful rich womaniser who boasts a lot among his friends about his live interests finally becomes mad when his wife makes him believe that he in fact is not the farher of their daughter. I know its very little info but if someone can recall which teleplays these stories are from, will be great.

  77. Hello everyone, do you remember T-Series played some pop songs late night back then? They were kind of pop songs with girls dancing around Africans and it probably had some Arabian theme to it? They weren't mainstream pop songs and the cast consisted of all new comers. Does it ring any bell?

Old-Idiot-Box search

Watch the Pilot Episode, right here ;) its called "THE FIRST LESSON".

This may have not been aired on DD national channel in the 70s or 80s but I must tell ya, its pretty entertaining. I am sure you guys would love it the plot is based on the Foreign students who join the Adult School in UK England i believe, to learn "English as a Foreign Language" this is the course they are "Unrolled for" as one of the student puts it to the school's pompous and tight-fisted Principal, Ms Courtney, when the student is looking to find the Classroom (what he means is Enrolled for) Mr Brown who's the English teacher learns himself the trouble and humor in different cultures from the students as he is teaching them. I love this sitcom enjoyed watchin' very episode n its really hilarious to listen to the students when they innocently mis-interpret things or mis-pronounce words while they are learning. Watch n Enjoy:)">
