Chunauti 1987

CHUNAUTI 1987 was aired on King of Television back then in 80s DOORDARSHAN. Chunauti was all about college and student life. The ups n downs, Struggles of one's life tackling with problems as they faced, rich brats experimenting with Drugs with snoby attitudes. It was a great show as far as i remember, I was a school goin' kid then. Grew up watching these great sitcoms. I could remember thru these wonderful title tracks and little abt the stories. I cherish these shows because they were simple yet so great the way they potrayed certain characters in the shows was real. They talked about LIFE.

Chunauti was a window into the psyche of college life in India. The serial profiled an idealist college principal Mr. Shastri and his travails with the problems that plague students including admissions, donations, ragging, miserable hostel conditions, drug addiction, irresponsible teachers, mass copying, and other malpractices. Character graphs and a well-crafted emotional drama covering every aspect of college life in detail, made Chunauti a big hit. Chunauti highlighted the higher education system and generated tremendous response from thinkers, planners and common masses. In the serial, Principal Shastri faces adversity. In the end however, with the assistance of many of his students and colleagues he emerges victorious. Chunauti aired 22 episodes each about 25 minutes in Hindi. Talaash

Its a story about a Writer who visits his Mom's friend casually, there he learns that her son had never visited home from a training. So the Writer decides to look out for him and get him home. He starts his journey and writes about the events n situations he comes across. He meets different kinds of people and associates lot of emotions with his struggle to find his friend. I believe thru this Sitcom viewers liked to question themselves as to what one seeks in Life. Are we clear of what we absoleutly want in life? Why is the thirst of wanting everything in life - neverending? I really loved this show it was a great sitcom made back then in the early 90s, if i am not wrong.

Karamchand is a old hindi serial that aired on doordarshan in mid 80s, directed by Pankaj Parashar. I believe it was the first Detective serial starring Pankaj Kapoor. I remember he used it lot of carrots and he used to make it so much fun making his Secretary look so dumb at times. The famous line "Kitty dont be silly". Well I used to really like that show a lot very interesting and bit thrilling too in those times.

YEH JO HAI ZINDAGI 1984

Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (literal meaning: 'This Thing Called Life') was a popular comedy sitcom on Indian television, aired for the first time in 1984. It was written by comedy writer Sharad Joshi and directed by S. S. Oberoi and Raman Kumar.
It was one of the first sitcoms and one of the biggest hit shows on Indian television after the state owned television, Doordarshan, started sponsoring its programs.

Each episode of the serial was 30 minutes long and was aired on Friday nights at 8:30pm. Its popularity can be gauged from the fact that video stores in London would await periodically for the copy of the serial’s tape. Even the box-office openings in cinemas were affected due to the airing of the show. After a couple of successful seasons, the show took a hiatus (due to the departure of Shafi, one of the primary characters, from the show) and returned for a second innings with some additional cast.

MAHANAGAR 1986

“Mahanagar” is a serial, which mirrors life in a city, a life that knows no peace, no leisure, and no happiness… just a wild race for existence.“Mahanagar” was one of the most popular serials of its time and appealed to a wide cross section of viewers. It dealt with the changing urbane psyche. Some major factors that have influenced India in the last 50 years were “The Second World War” and “The Independence of India.” Interestingly, both of these events occurred roughly at the same time. India, which was once dormant, suddenly transformed into a modern city. Big cities overtook small villages. Efficiency, productivity, and speed were the passwords of the new culture. The overall picture appeared rosier but to keep pace with this blinding speed, the entire society primarily the urban one, was pushed into a merciless breath-taking race a real 'Mad Rat Race'. A serial, which mirrors today’s life, which has no peace, no leisure, no happiness, just a race for existence.

TALAASH 90s

'Talaash' is a story of passion and pursuit…of betrayal and bereavement…of defeat and victory…of finding and seeking…… What is true love? Is it a moment of passion or a lifetime of sacrifice? Is renunciation a solution or penance a punishment? What is it that everyone hankers for and yet its attainment leaves one unfulfilled? These are the answers what we all search for and yet they are exactly what we actually never want to know. The truth is what we yearn for and yet we are never ready for the same, when it confronts us. 'Talaash' is a journey of people whose paths cross each other and their lives change forever. Come, lets join them in their search…their Talaash…...the only TV Show directed by the Legend Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
